Glycolytic enzyme complex: function

The glycolytic enzyme complex leads to a compartmentalization of the cytosol.
When all glycolytic enzymes are associated within the glycolytic enzyme complex glucose is very efficiently converted to lactate.

When enzymes such as phosphoglyceromutase (PGM) or the dimeric form of M2-PK migrate out of the glycolytic enzyme complex:

the conversion of glucose to lactate is reduced,

glycolyzic phosphometabolites levels increase and are available as precursors for synthetic processes,

energy has to be provide
d by glutaminolysis

The composition of the glycolytic enzyme complex
coordinates the glycolytic and glutaminolytic flux rate.
